This is it... the last week of 3rd class!

We cannot believe we are almost finished school for the summer. What a year it has been - from moving to our fabulous new school, to learning at home for 3 months. It has been a year to remember!

Go to Seesaw to see the last Monday morning message from your teachers!

Don't forget we also have our last class Zoom call on Monday at 10.00 for Sarah's class and 10.30am for Orla's class. Come along to see you classmates before the summer!

This week is all about celebrating our learning throughout the year and having some fun. Active Fortnight also continues, so be sure to take a look at the activities for each day.

Hi everyone!

We hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend. Go to Seesaw again this morning to see a message from Orla and Sarah! This is a 4-day week and you will find a suggested daily schedule for each day below.

Seesaw:
We are continuing to plan our lessons on Seesaw, with some optional extra activities being set by Aisling! Maths and Gaeilge tasks will now be set in your Planet Maths and Abair Liom books, but they will also be available on Seesaw.

Diversity Fortnight:
It’s Diversity Fortnight in Citywest ETNS! There will be activities which you can participate in throughout the week and can be found here - feel free to contribute to the page, if you wish!

Our learning topics for this week are:
English: Poetry
Maths: Time
Gaeilge: Ócáidí Speisialta
Art: Medieval castle

Daily tasks
Some activities are to be done every day, just like we did for our Home Learning throughout the year:
Spellings: Learn 4 spellings each day.
Reading: Read for at least 20 minutes.
Tables: Practice your division tables (focus on ÷5 and ÷6 this week)
Gaeilge: Practice 5 questions of your choice and answer orally.
Whole-school event: Go to the Diversity page for today’s activity!
Tour of the school:
You might like to join Caitríona each day as she continues on her tour of our school building!

Some notes for parents/guardians re: Gaeilge:

Also, we do understand that Gaeilge might be difficult for parents. We have provided a ‘Gaeilge Support Document’ with relevant translations. We hope the videos and teaching materials on Seesaw will help your child to try most of the work. However, we do understand that it might be overwhelming - if you find that it is too much, you can of course choose some other activities for your child.

Good luck for this week!
We hope the work for this week goes well. Remember that the work assigned is only a suggestion. We understand that this is an extraordinary and challenging time - just do whatever is manageable for your family. If you would like to try some extra activities, remember to check out the Bonus Activities page on our website.

Hi everyone! Here is our learning for this week, the last week of May! We hope you had a super weekend and are all set for this week. Log on to Seesaw to see a video message from your teacher and to say hello back!
Below you will find a suggested daily schedule on an easy-print document for each day.

Seesaw
We are delighted that Seesaw seems to be working so well for our families and we continue to plan more work on that site. Any worksheets which are mentioned on the daily plans will also be accessible on Seesaw and can be filled in digitally.
Aisling will also be assigning some tasks on Seesaw, for anyone who would like to try them! These are bonus activities - she would be delighted if you gave them a go!

Pupil books:
Monday is Book Collection day. If you are in a position to collect books, most of the written tasks can now be filled into the books, particularly for Maths and Gaeilge. If you are not in a position to collect your books, you can find the relevant worksheets on Seesaw and fill them out there, instead. We hope that works ok for everyone.

Language Fortnight:
These two weeks form our virtual Language fortnight. There will be activities which you can participate in throughout the week and can be found here - feel free to contribute to the page, if you wish!

Our learning topics for this week are:
English: Dictionary work / Reading comprehension
Maths: Capacity
Gaeilge: Caitheamh Aimsire (pastimes/hobbies)
SESE (Geography): Counties and rivers in Ireland

Caitríona noticed that we are learning about the counties of Ireland this week and she found these brilliant lessons for us, on the Home School Hub! Check them out if you can:
  • Leinster and activity for Leinster
  • Munster and activity for Munster
  • Connacht and activity for Connacht
  • Ulster and activity for Ulster

Daily tasks
Some activities are to be done every day, just like we did for our Home Learning throughout the year:
Spellings: Learn 4 spellings each day
Reading: Read for at least 20 minutes.
Tables: Practise your multiplication tables (focus on ÷3 and ÷4 this week)
Gaeilge: Practise 5 questions of your choice and answer orally.
Geography: From Tuesday - Friday, you will be revising the counties of each province.
Whole-school event: Go to the Language page for today’s activity!

A message from Orla and Sarah!

Hi everyone! We miss you all lots and we hope you are doing well at home. Be sure to let us know how the work is going for you, or if there is anything we can help you with!

Our main learning topics for this week
English: Persuasive writing - advertisements
Maths: Division
Gaeilge: Caitheamh Aimsire (Pastimes)
S.E.S.E.: Geography of Australia

Seesaw
We are so thrilled to see you using and enjoying Seesaw - it seems to be working really well! This week, some tasks have been assigned on Seesaw, so on the plans you will be told to go and check the activities over there instead. We can't wait to see lots more creativity, learning and enjoyment on Seesaw this week!

Wellbeing Fortnight:
This week is the second week of our Wellbeing Fortnight. Just like last week, one task each day will be focused on Wellbeing and will be found on this page.

Daily tasks
Some of your learning activities are to be done every day, just like we did for our Home Learning throughout the year. You are probably pretty good at doing these by yourself now! We have listed them here and on each plan:
  • Spellings: Learn 4 spellings each day.
  • Reading: Read for at least 20 minutes.
  • Tables: Practice your multiplication tables (focus on x11 and x12 this week)
  • Gaeilge: Practice 5 questions of your choice and answer orally.
  • Wellbeing: Go to this page to find out your activity for today!

Below you will find a suggested daily schedule on an easy-print document for each day. Each document also includes the relevant resources for that day. You will need to check back here for the website links, Powerpoint slides and teaching videos but everything else is included on the document.

A note for parents/guardians:
Please note that many activities this week are on folensonline.ie - it is free to sign up. We have taken screenshots of workbook pages, but there are many other great resources on the site, particularly for Maths and Gaeilge. We use Planet Maths and Abair Liom in 3rd Class. To create an account:
  1. Go to FolensOnline.ie and click register
  2. Select Teacher
  3. Fill in a username, email and password
  4. For Roll Number, use the code: Prim20 for primary book resources.

We also understand that Gaeilge might be difficult for parents. We have provided a ‘Gaeilge Support Document’ with relevant translations, which we hope will help. The children should have an understanding of a lot of the vocabulary and they should be able to try the tasks themselves. However, we do understand that this might be overwhelming for some families. If you find that this is too much, you can of course choose some other activities for your child.

Good luck for this week!
Have a great week, everyone! Remember that the work assigned is only a suggestion. We understand that this is an extraordinary and challenging time - just do whatever is manageable for your family. If you would like to try some extra activities, remember to check out the Bonus Activities page on our website.

*And finally - don't forget to send at least one piece of work (or even just a little message!) to your teacher each week - we are always so happy to hear from you! You can do so on our website, or on Seesaw.

We hope you are all ok at home and enjoying some of the learning tasks.

Below you will find a suggested daily schedule on an easy-print document for each day. Each document also includes the relevant resources for that day.
You will need to check back here for the website links, Powerpoint slides and teaching videos but everything else is included on the document. We hope it helps!

Here are our learning topics for this week:
  • English: Grammar and dictation
  • Maths: Symmetry
  • Science: Sound
  • Learn Together: Sikhism / Democracy and government

Some activities are to be done every day, just like we did for our Home Learning throughout the year. We have listed them here and on each plan:
  • Spellings: Learn 4 spellings each day.
  • Reading: Read for at least 20 minutes.
  • Tables: Practice your multiplication tables (focus on x7 and x8 this week).
  • Dán: Practice the poem ‘Bláthanna’ (Flowers). Read the poem provided, or listen to our recording of it to help you.

Please note that this outline is only a suggestion. We are aware that there are lots of things happening at home, so please do what you feel is manageable. If you would like to try some extra activities, remember to check out the Bonus Activities page on our website.
Don't forget to try and send some work (or even just a little message!) to your teacher each week - we are always so happy to hear from you!

A message from Orla & Sarah for this week:

You can download a printable version of our weekly plan here.
Here are our learning topics for this week!
Maths: Number Patterns and Sequences
English: Reading Comprehension / Book Review
Gaeilge: An Aimsir (The Weather)
SESE (Geography): Planet Earth in Space

Your Spelling List is:
homeless, careless, fearless, endless, helpless, speechless, tasteless, priceless, happiness, sadness, sickness, weakness, business, loneliness, witness, forgiveness
(We have these on an optional easy-print sheet below).

Below you will find a suggested daily schedule! Please note that this outline is only a suggestion. We are aware that there are lots of things happening at home so please do what you feel is manageable. For those of you who want some extra challenges, please take a look at our bonus activity page.

Some notes for parents / guardians:

Please note that many activities this week are on folensonline.ie - it is free to sign up. We have taken screenshots of workbook pages but there are many other great resources on the site, particularly for Maths and Gaeilge. We use the programmes: Planet Maths 3rd Class and Abair Liom 3rd Class. Each has ebooks, activities and games available on the site. To create an account:
  1. Go to FolensOnline.ie and click register
  2. Select Teacher
  3. Fill in a username, email and password
  4. For Roll Number use the code: Prim20 for primary book resources

Also, we do understand that Gaeilge will be difficult for most parents. We’ve provided a ‘Gaeilge Support Document’ with relevant translations. There are many interactive posters, activities and games that we would like the children to do this week. The children should have an understanding of a lot of the vocabulary and they should be able to do the tasks themselves. However, we do understand that this might be overwhelming for someone who does not speak the language. If you find that this is too much, you can of course choose some other activities for your child.

Monday:
1. English: Today, we are going to do a few short activities. You are used to doing stations in school so this will be like that, except you don’t need to move around! You should spend approximately 10 minutes on each task.
  • Task 1: Read aloud from your novel to your adult at home.
  • Task 2: Cursive handwriting - complete the handwriting sheet given. You may do these sentences in your copy if you are unable to print it out. Remember to form each letter correctly. Don’t rush - take your time!
  • Task 3: Practise writing out your sixteen spellings using look, cover, write, check. Look up any unfamiliar words.
  • Task 4: Play some grammar games on https://www.grammar.cl/Games.htm

2. Maths:
  • Play ‘Hit the Button’.  We are still revising our times tables. Focus on x4, x5, x6 this week.
  • Play the ‘Patterns and Sequences’ game.
  • Look at / do Planet Maths p. 128.

3. Gaeilge: Póstaer 15: Cén sórt aimsire atá ann inniu? (What is the weather like today?) https://content.folensonline.ie/programmes/AbairLiom/3rd_class/resources/Poster/AL_3C_ACT_POS_CH15_009/index.html
  • Listen to and understand the ‘Scéal’ (story)
  • Complete the ‘Foclóir’ (vocabulary) activity.
(Please see the ‘Gaeilge Support Document’ for the relevant translations.)

4. SESE:
  • This week, we are learning about ‘Our Planet in Space’. Read through p.72 and p.73 of the chapter.
  • Draw the Sun and the planets and label them. Try to learn the names of the planets, in order.

Bonus activity: It’s important to stay active at home. You could try a PE lesson with The Body Coach on https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ!

3. Gaeilge:
  • Listen to and understand the ‘Comhrá’ (conversation) https://content.folensonline.ie/programmes/AbairLiom/3rd_class/resources/Dialogue/AL_3C_ACT_DIA_CH15_008/index.html Read it aloud on Abair Liom p.125.
  • Complete task C - ‘Cén sórt aimsire é’ (What type of weather is it?) either orally or in a copy. Abair Liom p. 125.
(Please see the ‘Gaeilge Support Document’ for the relevant translations.)

4. SESE:
  • Look at ‘Our Planet in Space’ p.74. You might not be able to get up to watch the sunrise, but this website will tell you about what time the sun rises and sets each day. Check this every day for the rest of the week. What do you notice?
  • Read about shadows. If you can, bring some chalk outside on a sunny day (remembering to socially distance from others outside of your household!) and draw your shadow!

Bonus activity: Play a fun dice game to practise your times tables!
Connect 4 - Multiplication: Roll two dice and multiply the numbers on the dice. Colour in the answer. The first person to get four in a row wins the game! If you can’t print the game, you can copy the numbers onto a sheet of paper. You can also play on your own to practise your times tables too!

  • Tarraing agus scríobh (draw and write): Activity G on Abair Liom p.128. Draw four pictures to show the following sentences. Write the sentence under each picture.
  1. Tá sé fluich inniu.

  • Choose a novel that you have read recently and write a book review. You may use the given template or you may use the same headings in your copies if you are unable to print it out. Remember to use full sentences, with capital letters and full stops. Check back over your work and edit it if you need to.
  • Have you heard about the new Citywest ETNS Book Club? Why not submit your book review to the Book Club? You can also get a recommendation for what book to read next!
  • Revise your spellings. You could practise saying them aloud with your adult.

2. Maths:
  • Play ‘Hit the Button’. Focus on x4, x5, x6 this week.
  • Look at / do Planet Maths p. 131. You will need to use your multiplication and division skills!

4. SESE:
  • Do the crossword on ‘Our Planet in Space’ p.76. You can draw out the crossword if you want or you can just find the answers to the clues.

Friday:
1. English:
  • Read your novel for 30 minutes.
  • Revise your spellings. If your adult is able to, they could test your spellings today. If not, you could create a wordsearch containing all 16 spellings, or put all 16 spellings into alphabetical order.

2. Maths:
  • Play ‘Hit the Button’. Focus on x4, x5, x6 this week.
  • If your adult is able to, they could test you on some of your tables. (Maybe 10-15 sums).
  • Look at / do the ‘check up’ in Planet Maths p. 132.

3. Gaeilge:
  • Listen to and understand the ‘dán’ (poem) - ‘Ní Maith Liom an Bháisteach’ (I don’t like the rain): https://content.folensonline.ie/programmes/AbairLiom/3rd_class/resources/Poem/AL_3C_ACT_POE_CH15_006/index.html
  • Try to recite it!
(Please see the ‘Gaeilge Support Document’ for the relevant translations.)

4. Art: Make your own 3D hand! Watch this video - it’s easy to do and they look cool! You might want to use a ruler to draw the straight lines. Have fun!

Bonus activity: Today’s bonus activity hopes to spread some love and happiness! Why not try to Skype or Facetime someone who you miss. Think about your grandparents and other people who you cannot see at the moment. You could also write a letter to someone, or if you haven’t had a chance to submit some work to your teacher, why not do that now!

*Don't forget to celebrate all of your learning this week with some Golden Time!!*
