We have been getting active in Orla's Junior Infant class! Our P.E. days are Wednesday and Friday, and this month we have been focusing on the Games strand of the curriculum.
We have also tried some yoga in our classroom, along with getting some busy breaks during class time. Go Noodle is our favourite website for finding an activity to do - check it out here. For some of our P.E lessons and part of busy breaks during the school day we have been practicing yoga. Children derive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves. Sometimes an infant classroom can be a noisy and energetic place so yoga helps calms us and prepare us for our learning. Here is the link for the yoga Claire is using in her class (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obzFP6eEGAg) One Day Together took place on Friday the 6th of October and there was a food fair in the PE hall to celebrate it. Lots of families took to time to make some wonderful dishes from different countries and cuisines from all around the world. There was great excitement around the school on the day. Check out some of Claire's Class sampling and enjoying the food!
Here are some photos of us during play rota. The big wooden blocks were a big hit with us. We made some fabulous buildings and structures. We also used some dress up outfits to introduce us to sociodramatic play (pretending to play as different people in different places). We have been learning some Irish songs over the past few weeks, and we have gotten really good at singing them! The first one is 'Mise an Traein' and the second is 'Rólaí Pólaí' - check us out below! Over the last two weeks, Laura's class have been playing in "The Shop". We've learned a lot and have had so much fun!
Last week, Laura's class were learning about the work of the Swiss artist Paul Klee. He famously described drawing as "taking a line for a walk". With our best crayons in hand, we decided to do the same!
Have a look at our wonderful art work inspired by this famous artist. We are SUPER proud of our masterpieces! It has been a busy month so far in Junior Infants! All three classes have been getting used to life in Citywest ETNS, enjoying lots of activities in the classroom and on yard. Take a look at a few pictures from the past few weeks. Check back here in a week or two to read our first news update!
