We had such a lovely afternoon in our classroom! We have been learning all about restorative practice during our Friendship Keeper lessons. Last week, we learned about love bombing which is when we can surprise people with little bursts of love and kindness. We planned a big love bomb for our teacher Andrea from second class. We prepared cards, messages and posters for her and then invited her to our classroom to surprise her with a big cheer and our gifts! Andrea had a lovely surprise and we really enjoyed spreading love to our community! We can't wait to spread more love and kindness in our community!
Our Friendship Keeper mascot is the giraffe because the giraffe has the biggest heart of all the land animals and a long neck to see things from others' perspectives. Check out our mascots and giraffe drawings.
We have been working hard on some different projects in our classroom. During our art lessons, we have been working on creating some positive portraits using a cool tie dye effect from crepe paper. Check out the steps below if you want to try it at home.
First, we drew pencil portraits of ourselves in the centre of a white piece of card and added positive words to describe our personalities. We also added some patterns around the words.
Next, we went over the pencil with a dark crayon or coloured pencil and then we started putting strips of coloured tissue paper on top of the words and patterns. We sprayed the tissue with water to make it stick to the card.
Finally, we waited until the crepe paper dried before removing it and were very happy with the results! The coloured paper had painted the pages for us in cool patterns!
We have also been having great fun using the chromebooks in our class every Friday. We are learning to use Book Creator at the moment and are in the middle of writing short books about giants. We will keep you updated on our progress.
Finally, we are very proud of Pranav in our class. He entered an art competition during the summer and his art was selected in the 67th Texaco Children's Art competition and he was awarded a Special Merit Certificate. His artwork is currently being exhibited in Highlanes Gallery in Drogheda,co Louth until 2nd October. Here is his lovely picture. Congratulations Pranav!
Wow! What a busy few weeks we have had in school! We have been busy settling into our new classroom and getting used to being in Third Class. We have also started some super learning. We are proud of our classroom and our work! Check out our pictures below. We will add more news and pictures soon!
We created a class contract together with important promises for the year and we made jigsaw pieces to show that we are each unique but fit together to make a wonderful class.
We work together in pods.
Check out some of our art that we put up on our classroom wall.
We have been learning outside as well.
We are practicing daily Gratitude in 2021. Every day we write a note about something good that happened that day. At the end of this year AT LEAST 365 good things will have happened & we can enjoying reading back over our notes. This week we are making containers to store our gratitude notes. Take a look:
We listened to three different types of marches: ‘Radetzky March’, ‘Do You Hear the People Sing?’ & ‘Brian Ború March’. Then we responded by composing & performing our own original marching beats in groups 🎵
