We all felt very strongly that Amrita and her friends were right to defend the trees, as they were so important to their lives and livelihood.
Later, we looked at a newspaper report about people who decided to protest the felling of trees here in Ireland, only twenty years ago. They didn't want a major road built through the Glen of the Downs, an area of natural beauty.
The majority of our class felt that it should be kept as it is, so that the habitat of local creatures will not be damaged. Many children felt that it would be good to reach some sort of a compromise - building some kind of visitor's centre without interrupting the environment too much.
