Last week we learned about our lungs and how they function.
The class tested their breathing before and after exercising and learned that our breathing gets faster after exercising as our body needs more oxygen.
Pupils also worked together in small groups to test how the respiratory system works, using just a plastic bottle and 2 balloons. One balloon was secured to the lid of the bottle to represent the lung, and another was secured to the bottom of the bottle to show the diaphragm.
As they pulled the ‘diaphragm’ down, the balloon filled with air and expanded, just as our lungs do.
It only comes around every 4 years! And this will probably be the first world cup all our young learners will remember! Just like 2002 for me, I have some great memories! We have connections to some teams still competing, even though Ireland didn't make it! France, Poland and Russia, to name three! So hopefully these countries can make their mark on the competition!
